PTSD is not something that one can easily heal from, if ever. Veterans who have fought in wars often go thru the rest of their lives, reliving the traumatic event when something triggers it. Likewise, with birthmothers. Having relinquished my child to adoption many years ago, I know this to be the case. PTSD is not just a mental issue, it’s a wound on your soul and the child’s. Sadly, there’s not enough research and clarity into what is involved & very little attempts by a culture to seek healing for women, yet plenty of positive articles & encouragement in support of adoption. Society needs to take a more honest look at the tragic reality of trauma to birthmothers so that childless couples can have children.
